“I guess I gotta tell someone,” Rebel Wilson Has Bad News & We’re *Sending Hugs*

today5 May 2021

Background

‘Pitch Perfect’ actress Rebel Wilson has been making viewers laugh since 2003, appearing on TV shows (‘Pizza’, ‘The Wedge’) and movies (‘Bargain’, ‘What to Expect When You’re Expecting’), with her roles earning her a spot in Variety’s list of “Top Ten Comics to Watch for 2012”. With that being said, it’s rare to see or hear the actress share bad news. Unfortunately, she’s had to do exactly that recently. On Monday, the 41-year-old Australian actress took to her Instagram account to share:

“I got some bad news today and didn’t have anyone to share it with…but I guess I gotta tell someone.”

The ‘Cats’ actress went on to say:

“To all the women out there struggling with fertility, I feel ya. The universe works in mysterious ways and sometimes it all doesn’t make sense…but I hope there’s light about to shine through all the dark clouds.”

News of her struggles with conceiving comes after Wilson opened up to E! News about her polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) diagnosis. PCOS is a hormonal disorder common among women of reproductive age and it can lead to infertility (although the actress herself has not linked the two publically). As a result, Wilson determined that 2020 would be a “year of health” for her, which saw her lose 60 pounds (28KG). However, the singer revealed that keeping the weight off, in the midst of bouts of “emotional eating” has been a struggle:

“Now the challenge is to keep it off. I’ve never successfully in my life [done it]. I’ve lost a bit of weight here or there, but I guess last year I set myself a mission. 2020 is the year of health. I kind of overhauled my whole lifestyle and for the first time in my life really prioritized health.”

With that said, Wilson did reveal on an Instagram Live in December that she’d been thinking of freezing her eggs as she hoped to have a family one day.

“So, I was thinking fertility and having quality eggs in the bank. I was like, ‘Okay, I’m gonna do this, I’m gonna get healthy.'”

Not long after initially sharing her news, Wilson added a tiny but immensely heartwarming update:

“just wanted to say I woke up this morning and read through everyone’s kind messages and stories about their journeys and I can’t tell you how much that meant to me and has made me feel a lot better today. Social media for the win here in terms of creating connection when I was in a very lonely place. So thank you everyone ?”

We love to see social media used for good – to empower, uplift and comfort. You got this Rebel, we’re rooting for you (and anyone else who may also be facing similar struggles).
