On April 5th , Eminem’s home in Michigan was broken into. A short tape recording from the Clinton Township Police Department concerning the events showed that 27-year-old Matthew David Hughes had told officers that he lived “down the street” from the home of Eminem. At the time, it was reported that Eminem had actually come face to face with the intruder, who had gotten into his home in the middle of the night by smashing a window with a brick paver. Now, new reports show that the intruder had actually interacted with Eminem before he was apprehended by the rappers security detail.
The Detroit Free Press reported that when the rapper, whose real name is Marshall Mathers, had woken up and subsequently coem face to face with the intruder in the living room. Mathers had initially thought that the man was his nephew but soon realised it wa a stranger. Clinton Township cop Adam Hamstock testified that when Mathers realised that it was an intruder, he had asked Hughes why he was there.
“When Mr. Mathers asked him why he was there, he was told by Mr. Hughes that he was there to kill him,”
However, this isn’t his first time attempting to reach the “Rap God”.
As it turns out, Hughes was also arrested in 2019 for breaking and entering two different homes in June last year (2019) while looking for Mathers. While one of the homes had no connection to Mathers, the second was an Oakland Township home that was previously owned by the rapper. According to police reports obtained by TMZ, Hughes had also broken the window of the first home by throwing a rock through it in the middle of the night. The house owner had called the police on Hughes, who had disappeared only to reappear later while knocking on a window and asking for “his brother, Marshall.”
At the second home in the Oakland Township, Hughes was told by the owner of the home that Marshall didn’t live there anymore and he was told to leave. However, when the police arrived following the homeowners call, they could him hiding under a bed on the second floor of the property’s gatehouse.
Thankfully, the rapper is fine. Following his apprehension, Hughes faces two felony charges for first-degree home invasion and malicious destruction of property. While Eminem was not in court his attorney watched the proceedings by video.
