In a move that has startled rights activists and advocacies, Malaysia deported 1,086 Myanmar nationals on February 23, 2021, despite an order from the Kuala Lumpur High Court temporarily barring the repatriation.
The court order was served as a response to a judicial review request from Amnesty International and Asylum Access, who say that sending the Myanmar nationals back home would entail huge risks to their personal safety and freedom.
