Paul Mescal Will Be “Profoundly Depressed” If ‘Gladiator 2’ Catapults Him to Fame

today17 January 2024

Background

Oscar-nominated Paul Mescal has garnered a huge fanbase as Connell in Normal People, the struggling father in Aftersun, as well as other notable roles, but he is a little concerned about fame when Ridley Scott’s Gladiator 2 opens in theaters.

Mescal will be carrying the main role in the sequel film, opposite stars such as Pedro Pascal and Denzel Washington.

When discussing the potential fame awaiting him with the release of the film, Mescal says,

“Is it just that more people will stop you in the street? I’d get profoundly depressed if that’s so and hope it isn’t true. I’ll have an answer next year, but if [the film] impacts my life in that way, I’ll be in a bad spot. I’d have to move on and do an obtuse play nobody wants to see.”

Gladiator 2 will be released at the end of this year.
