Twitter Users Think Drake Should Take Up Acting; Fans Are Shocked To Realise He Debuted In A TV Show

Following the release of “POPSTAR”, a song by DJ Khaled with the one and only Champagne Papi, fans and Twitter users alike have many, many things to say about the accompanying music video. In it, DJ Khaled is seen hounding Drake in an attempt to get him to film the music video for “POPSTAR” despite the COVID-19 pandemic keeping them apart.

Drake, who looks both irate and frustrated, ends up calling in a favour (enter Justin Bieber as Drake).

Despite his appearance making up only a minute of the 8-minute long video (before Justin Bieber steps in to take his place), fans of the rapper were quick to commend him for his acting skills.

However, the tweet above blew up quickly, as many started calling out the original tweeter for forgetting – Drake has actually acted in a TV show before. Born Aubrey Graham, the “Hotline Bling” rapper acted as ‘Jimmy Brooks’, a high school basketball star who became physically disabled after he was shot by a classmate. His character was one of many in the popular Canadian TV series, “Degrassi: The Next Generation”. He’s also made a few other appearances on TV shows but his role on ‘Degrassi’ was his biggest.

The award-winning series ran for 13 seasons, starting in 2001 and ending in 2015. Starting out in the show at the age of 15 in 2001, Drake ended up participating in 100 episodes from then till 2008. In 2008, Drake ended up quitting the show to pursue music, but later also said that he was kicked off the show due to a hectic schedule. The 34-year-old hitmaker even paid tribute to his “Degrassi” breakout role by including the original characters in his music video for the 2018 song, “I’m Upset”.

Needless to say, Twitter had a field day, with reactions ranging from disbelief that Drake started out with acting to disbelief that people didn’t already know that the “God’s Plan” singer got his break in TV.

So, which side of disbelief are you on? Did you know that Drake was an accomplished actor before becoming the Champagne Papi we adore?
