Since being spotted in the studio together, fellow Canadians Shawn Mendes and Justin Bieber have sparked collaboration rumours more fervent than a lot of relationship rumours. However, the pair have kept mum – until now. Both singers have announced that they will be collaborating on a new song titled, ‘Monster’. Posting snippets of the songs on their social media, fans are teased with 13-seconds of dimly-lit outdoor scenes accompanied by ambient synth-like music.

With the teaser, we get to see that the song is to be titled ‘Monster’ and will drop on the 20th of November, i.e. THIS FRIDAY!
The song will be part of Mendes’s upcoming album, ‘Wonder’ which is set to be released on the 4th of December. ‘Monster’ is the second track to drop from the 22-year-old’s upcoming album, with the title track for which the album gets its name having been released a month ago. ‘Wonder’, Mendes’s fourth studio album is said to be “filled with honest reflections after growing in more ways than one during the pandemic”. While initially being hit hard by the idea of having to quarantine and adjust to the new normal, Mendes shared in an interview with Zane Lowe on Apple Music that it ended up being “the best gift [he] think[s he’s] ever, ever been given in [his] whole life.”
“It was the first time I was quiet and I was able to be like, ‘What is happening in this world and how do I feel about it and what can I do and where does this go from here?'”

He continued by explaining that the pandemic painted a bigger picture that allowed him to reach new heights with his music, sharing,
“That stillness brought a lot of anxiety to the surface that I had to work through and on the other side of that was a really reflective period for me where I could be like, ‘Oh this is what I’ve been doing. This is crazy. This is what I can do. This is art. This is bigger than me. It was the first time I had the chance to even think about someone more than me. It was the first time I had enough space in my heart and my head that wasn’t so consumed about how many people were caring about what I was doing.”
The collaboration between Bieber and Mendes is a dream for both fans and the artists involved. Mendes has called Bieber “one of [his] favourite artists since [he] was like nine years old.”
