The Marvel Cinematic Universe just keeps expanding and it’s proving to be bigger, stronger, and more powerful.
Reprising her role as Okoye, the general of Dora Milaje, Danai Gurira will not only be returning in Ryan Coogler’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, but also in an origin spin-off series for Disney+! The upcoming untitled Black Panther TV series will come from Coogler’s Proximity Media banner and will be set in the kingdom of Wakanda.
No plot details are revealed just yet, but fans are ecstatic that the series will be centring on Wakanda’s all-female fighting force. Currently, no information has yet to be released regarding who will join the line-up alongside Gurira, but judging from her character, fans hope that the series will explore deeper into the military mindset and team dynamics among the combatants.
“We had some amazing women in there, I loved the women we got to get together with for the Dora Milaje,” Gurira said in February 2019. “These women are, some of them are stuntwomen, some of them are from dance… even circus performers. It was a very interesting group of women who came together, from all over the world, and who all brought in grace and ability and all of that.”
She added,
“We need to see more women stories being told. I think that’s something that’s being slowly more and more realized and proven without a shadow of a doubt.”
Another member of the Dora Milaje, Ayo (who is played by Florence Kasumba) recently appeared in another Marvel series on Disney+, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Despite her short screen time, Ayo commanded the audience’s attention with her amazing combat skills and moves, including disassembling Bucky Barnes’ metal arm with just a few swift movements.
Be warned: these women are NOT to be messed with!
