Selena is teaming up with close friend director Petra Collins to bring this psychology thriller to life!
Petra was also the person behind Selena’s horror movie-inspired music video ‘Fetish’ way back in 2017.
The best part? The plot for this film holds major relevance in today’s societal culture when it comes to social media. The premise of this story revolves around a former influencer whose addiction to social media not only causes her life to fall apart — but her body, too, and in the literal sense.
Selena has spoken out regarding the all-too-real issue with social media prevalent among young people today,
“I want people to have a good relationship with social media,” Gomez started. “It’s not going anywhere anytime soon. But knowing that the real world’s in front of you and trying to pay attention to that is healthy. When I make an effort to post on social media or do what I’m doing, it’s important for me to make sure it’s 100 per cent authentic and once I post it, I post it. That’s it…I see so many beautiful girls and amazing different characters and then they’re just demolished by an image that they’re trying to chase. Their wanting to be a completely different person but that’s not what’s inside of them, you know? But I get it. I look at other people’s pages—or I used to—and I’m like, okay, I need to fix myself.”
Selena herself once fell victim to social media addiction.
“As soon as I became the most followed person on Instagram, I sort of freaked out,” she explained. “It had become so consuming to me. It’s what I woke up to and went to sleep to. I was an addict, and it felt like I was seeing things I didn’t want to see, like it was putting things in my head that I didn’t want to care about. I always end up feeling like shit when I look at Instagram. Which is why I’m kind of under the radar, ghosting it a bit.”
The star has recently wrapped up on the Hulu series ‘Only Murders in the Building’, which also stars Steve Martin and Martin Short. She is also making a return in ‘Hotel Transylvania: Transformia’ to voice Mavis! So many exciting new things on the horizon…
