Fret not BTS and BLACKPINK still hold the crowns as K-Pop icons, however in every industry competition is inevitable especially within South Korea’s pop industry is both grueling and fierce, with a group growing like mushrooms debuting seemingly every other week. A few dozen rookie acts entered the K-pop scene last year and enthusiastically interacted with fans through online platforms as both parties awaited the day when in-person gatherings could resume.
So here are five of the best new K-pop stars you need to listen to right now.
StayC
Members: Sumin, Sieun, Isa, Seeun, Yoon, and J
Acronym for Star To A Young Culture and is meant to “reflect the act’s aim of dominating pop culture” is a South Korean girl group formed by High Up Entertainment. With hits garnering over 1.7 million views.
P1Harmony
Members: Keeho, Theo, Jiung, Intak, Soul, and Jongseob
The group debuted on October 28, 2020, with their EP Disharmony: Stand Out, as well as an additional movie P1H: The Beginning Of A New World. On April 20, 2021, the group made their first comeback with their second EP Disharmony: Break Out.
Aespa
Members: Karina, Giselle, Winter and NingNing
A South Korean girl group formed by SM Entertainment. Aespa is slated to make a comeback in May, though what form it will take isn’t yet clear. The band only has two singles to their name, but both became hits.
Weeekly
Members: Soojin, Jiyoon, Monday, Soeun, Jaehee, Jihan, and Zoa
Launched by Play M Entertainment, the group is the record label’s second girl group in 10 years, after Apink!
ENHYPEN
Members: Heeseung, Jay, Jake, Sunghoon, Sunoo, Jungwon, and Ni-Ki
Commonly stylized as ENHYPEN, is a South Korean boy band formed by Belift Lab, a joint venture between CJ ENM and Hybe Corporation. Formed through the 2020 survival competition show I-Land.
