The Plot Continuation For Zack Snyder’s Justice League Involves *Important Deaths*

today25 March 2021

Background
*Warning: Spoilers ahead for 'Zack Snyder's Justice League'*

According to Zack Snyder, he had a whole Snyderverse of 5 films planned, starting with 2013’s ‘Man of Steel’ at the forefront, followed by 2016’s ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’. His ‘Justice League’ was the middle point. Speaking to Vanity Fair, Snyder explained that he had initially planned for the two more movies to follow where ‘Justice League’ leaves off. Now, if you’ve seen ‘Zack Snyder’s Justice League’, this will make more sense. In his interview with Vanity Fair, he also reveals what his initial plans for the next two movies were and – you’re going to want to hang on to your seats for this – it involves a lot of beloved heroes dying.

And why did they die? The answer lies in the middle of Snyders cut: where Cyborg has a vision and in the vision, we see Superman tearfully holding a charred corpse. According to Snyder, this charred corpse is Louis Lane and serves as a foreshadow to the next two movies.

“Darkseid comes to Earth. Superman says to Batman, ‘Guard Lois. This is a war between me and Darkseid. If you can help me as a friend, keep Lois safe.’ Lex [Luthor] tells Darkseid that the key to Superman’s weaknesses is killing Lois Lane. Batman fails. Darkseid comes back and kills Lois.”

How did  Batman fail? Apparently, Batman and Lane were meant to be arguing and in the midst of that, Lane is killed. Why Batman and Lane would be fighting, if Snyder had his way, was because he fell for her in Supermans absence.

“The intention was that Bruce fell in love with Lois and then realized that the only way to save the world was to bring Superman back to life. So he had this insane conflict, because Lois, of course, was still in love with Superman. We had this beautiful speech where [Bruce] said to Alfred: ‘I never had a life outside the cave. I never imagined a world for me beyond this. But this woman makes me think that if I can get this group of gods together, then my job is done. I can quit. I can stop.’”

With Lane dead, Superman is without a reason to fight, succumbing to Darkseid’s Anti-Life Equation (a formula for total control over the minds of sentient beings) and ultimately, this ends with Wonder Woman, Aquaman and more – dead.

“That’s what the post-apocalyptic world is: Superman just searching for Batman to kill him to get his revenge for the death of Lois.”

This is what Cyborg’s, “He found us,” refers to in Snyders cut: the arrival of Superman under Darkseid’s control.

Of course, this wouldn’t have been the end all be all – it is a multiverse. Snyder went on to say:

“What happens in the post-apocalyptic world is, Cyborg works on an equation to use a Mother Box to jump Flash back in time to warn Bruce about this moment, where he didn’t have the courage to sacrifice himself to save Lois,”

This moment is what we see in ‘Batman v Superman’, where the Flash appears to wake Batman up from his apocalyptic nightmare. It explains why Miller’s Flash seems to already be familiar with Batman and also why he knew exactly what Batman was dreaming about. Now, knowing what he has to do to prevent the apocalypse he’s been dreaming out…

“So in that moment, he does the right thing and sacrifices himself. Superman doesn’t succumb to the Anti-Life Equation. Then the final movie has Aquaman leading the forces of Atlantis, Diana leading forces of Themyscira, and Superman and Flash leading the forces of [humans] against Darkseid in a giant war.”

This overwhelming information, as we revisit Snyder’s older movies and imagine what could be with his plans for the two followup movies, is nothing short of mindblowing. However, with Snyder now having revealed the direction of the two movies, it’s almost absolutely certain that we will never see the above plots come to life on the big screen. ?
