As Riverdale returns to The CW for a new season, complete with a forthcoming plot jump into the future, rumour has it that there may be an additional chapter coming to the saga. According to a Deadline interview with Mark Pedowitz, chairman and CEO of The CW, a new Riverdale spinoff series has been discussed.

Mark explained that although he has not seen scripted proof of a potential Riverdale spinoff, the show’s creator, Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, has contemplated what the future might hold for the Riverdale gang. “I do know that he’s thinking long term on how to continue the Riverdale situation,” Mark said.
The network’s CEO specifically pointed to the show’s main characters as potential subjects of a spinoff, but as of yet, there’s nothing concrete. Riverdale fans may recall the show’s previous spinoff, Katy Keene, which focused on the adventures of an aspiring New York City-based star. That show was cancelled after only a season.

For now, fans will have to wait and see whether this Riverdale spinoff plan comes to fruition. However, it’s not as though viewers won’t be able to enjoy more of Roberto’s work until then. Along with the return of Riverdale, he’s working on a reboot of Pretty Little Liars for HBO Max, and his latest, and final, chapter of The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina just debuted on Netflix.
