THIS Local Mall Used To Be A Popular Haunting Ground For A Decade…

today24 May 2021

Background

Before being reconstructed in 2017 into a glorious new shopping mall with a different name, Kemayan City was an abandoned building that had been terrifying passersby and visitors for ten years since 1997.

Based on original plans dating back to 1993, the mall was named after its former developer Kemayan Corp Bhd. High ambitions were placed on the mall as it was set to be the largest integrated shopping centre in Johor Bahru but strangely, development stopped in 1997 without any official reason being given.

However, a tweet theorised that there was once a shootout involving robbers, resulting in many dead bodies and leading to the place being shut down.

One of the most famous stories attached to this building is that of a Singaporean couple who went “shopping” at the abandoned mall. Despite being empty and abandoned, to them, the mall was bustling with customers. Upon returning home, they realised that the things they have bought were just…leaves and branches.

Another story regarding this building was submitted to a weekly horror radio show in Singapore.

Apparently, a man who was commissioned to inspect the empty building saw a woman squatting on the railing. He shut his eyes in terror and when he opened them again, the woman was gone. The man proceeded with his duties until the same figure faced the wall right in front of him.

He desperately tried to escape the building to no avail until he recited some prayers. Before finally exiting the building, he heard the woman shriek.

Another story involves a passenger who flagged a taxi and asked to be sent to Kemayan City. Upon reaching the destination, the passenger stepped out without paying the fare. The driver turned around to call out for her just to see that she had vanished into thin air, nowhere to be seen.
